Mr Polly's wedding banned

We've just had an intriguing note from from Margaret Ebling. She has been scanning the Foxearth Parish Register entries of August 1766 and came across the following entry:-

Banns of Marriage published.
George Polly and Letticia Bate
    signed Andrew Grant, curate.

Underneath was written:.

There was no further publication as Mr Hinde and Mr Hamson, the guardians of Mr Polly signified their dissent

We'd all be fascinated to know more about what happened. We're hoping that in some family there is a tradition passed down that will enlighten us to the story behind this unusual entry in the Parish Register. Does anyone know?
